The United States is a country which has rapid development in the aspect of education.It has world-class higher education and forms its own unique characteristics. Higher education in the United States began with the founding of Harvard College in 1636.In the past more than 300 years,it has developed into a large enterprise with a very complex system.The higher education comprises four categories of institutions:the university;the four-year undergraduate institution—the college;the technical training institution and the two-year community college. Higher education in the United States is famous for its free and open. Harvard University is one of the outstanding representatives.HarvardUniversity?is a?privatelvy?League?research university?in?Cambridge,?Massachusetts.Established in 1636 by the?Massachusetts legislature?and soon thereafter named for?John Harvard?(its first benefactor), Harvard is the?United States oldest institution of higher learning,[6]?and the?Harvard Corporation is its first chartered?corporation. Eight U.S. presidents?have been graduates, and?some 150 Nobel Laureates?have been affiliated as students, faculty, or staff. Harvard is also the?alma mater?of 62 living?billionaires?and 335?Rhodes Scholars, the most in the country.[11][12]?The?Harvard University Library?is also the largest academic library in the United States.[13]Harvard has the?largest?financial endowment?of any academic institution in the world, standing at $30 billion as of September 2012.[3]The history, influence and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
