Rosmarinusofficinalis (rosemary) Abstract:Rosemary (Rosmarinusofficinalis) is a kind of evergreen shrub with special aromatic smell, which is in the family of Lamiaceae and in the genus of Rosmarinus. Rosemary has long history use, which was used for memory improvement. Nowadays, rosemary is used for flavour and relieving digestion problem, headache and memory loss. Rosemary contains essential oil, including carnosic acid and carnosol, which are one of the major components. Rosemary have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and other bioactivities. Antioxidant activity has some relationship with treating obesity and cognitive ability and anti-inflammatory activity is relevant to relieving digestion and skin problem and headache. However, the overall efficacy of rosemary is not very high. The rosemary herb is general safe when oral use, however, it is toxic to take the rosemary essential oil by mouth. It also have the risk of bleeding and seizure when overdose.
