The Qiang New Year is celebrated on the 1st of the lunar October and lasts for 3 to 5 days every year. According to folk customs, the Qiang prepare different kinds of foods such as chicken, mutton, and beef for worshipping Heaven and Earth as well as their ancestors. The whole village has a party together to celebrate the New Year, and during the festival, they sing and dance while enjoying a feast. Besides, they also visit friends and relatives to pay them a New Year抯 call, tightening the close relationships and bonds among them. The Worshipping Mountain Festival is held at different times depending on the region, but mainly in January, April, or May every year. The festival customs are full of religious tones and the community fills with a respectful atmosphere while praying for a big harvest in autumn from God. The processes of the Worshipping Mountain Festival are rather complex, and the sacrifice varies based on regions and totems which can be divided into sheep, dog, or bull sacrifices on the whole. These rituals are often difficult to understand for visitors. There is the Tazi Festival for the men, and the Hange Festival for the women among the Qiang minority, which are held on the 3rd of the lunar March and the 5th of the lunar May respectively.
