They are woven together in harmony with many different threads. Our collaboration in Beijing at the Third “Art and Natural Health Conference” in 2009 deepened our shared awareness of the role of both body and mind in the creation of art, and of new possibilities for art therapy practice. Wang Chunhong’s concern as our host was to help her colleagues integrate Western art therapy approaches with creative Chinese approaches’ to healing. From the conference she realized the need for the cultures of East and West to work together to build art therapy theory and practice in China. The Western trained art therapists also gained a new perspective, one that will be less familiar to some readers. Wang, who is trained as a dancer and choreographer, is also trained in the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory of ZangXiang. She integrates her experience in healing, dance, and art into her own therapeutic approach that she calls DaDance Therapy. Wang feels that she must use all the dimensions of the arts (she includes Chinese medicine as an art) to heal all dimensions of the client’ s problem. Art therapy in Beijing is in the beginning stages. Future art therapists from Beijing must study abroad, since the only university creative arts therapy program is in Music Therapy. Programs in Music Therapy are offered in eight different universities (Wang 2009). Dimensionalartdance courses are also offered in many universities, thanks in part to the efforts of Wang. Dance therapy training is now offered in classified courses at Beijing Geely University. Wang created an International Conference to explore these interconnections between the arts and healing at a time of creative exploration, and foundational development of Art Therapy in China. 我们现
