A hungry lion sat watching a fat bull eating grass in the field. “If bulls didn’t have horns(牛角),” thought the lion, “then I could soon eat him up.”
Suddenly he had an idea. Walking up to the bull, he said in a friendly voice, “I am admiring you, Mr. Bull. I hope you do not mind. What a handsome head you have! What strong shoulders and legs! Nevertheless, I don’t see why you stand those horns. They must give you quite a headache and they do destroy your appearance, you know?”
“Do you think so?” said the bull. “I never thought about it. Since you mentioned it, the horns might really get in the way and destroy my appearance. Let me see.”
The lion went away silently and hid behind a tree to watch. The bull waited until the lion was out of sight, and then began to hit his head strongly against a big stone. First one horn splintered(裂成碎片), than the other.
