Teaching Objectives:
Cultivate students’ interest and build up their confidence in writing
Familiar students with an overview of the different writing tasks for the term.
Teaching Materials:
Course book
PowerPoint: A1 --- Unexpected Money
Teaching Procedures:
Teacher briefly introduces the 4 sections which make up this yearly writing course.
Teacher moves on to Section A: Narration, and leads students into the first task: Unexpected Money.
Discussion:“Have you ever heard of any story about “unexpected money”?
Teacher shares two pieces of news on “unexpected money”
Students do a free-writing exercise on “unexpected money” (15 minutes)
Teacher checks students’ free-writing and makes comments.
Teacher shares with students some good sample free-writing contributed by students of the previous years.
Ask students to look at the samples and read them aloud.
Students are required to make comments on the samples.
Teacher summarizes students’ comments and gives analyses on the samples.
Homework: Write a composition of 300 words on a sum of unexpected money (not necessarily a large sum) that has made a difference.
