TENKILLER RESERVOIR MANAGEMENT PLAN Tenkiller Ferry Dam was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE) on the Illinois River approximately 12 miles above its confluence with the Arkansas River in eastern Oklahoma. Construction was authorized by Congress under the Flood Control Act of 1938 and completed in 1952. Authorized purposes are flood control and hydropower. The 12,900 acre lake extends 26 miles along a north-south axis in Cherokee and Sequoyah counties (Figure 1), has 130 miles of shoreline with a watershed of 1,030,425 acres in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
