* 虚拟架构的实现方式上来看，主要有两种，一种是寄居型，像workstation，vmware server，像microsoft virture pc，简单的来说，寄居型的架构是安装在主机操作系统之上的虚拟机，比如我有台pc/server,要使用这台机器，我先安装操作系统（2003等）－驱动－补丁，安装workstation，在workstation里安装、配置、运行一台虚拟机（xp），这样结构：硬件/2003/workstation/xp(viurtual machine),虚拟机的运行依赖主机的操作系统，包括设备的支持和资源的管理。而像这种主机的操作系统，他的功能很多，系统本身也是很复杂的，运行各种不同的应用。所以本身存在很多bug，漏洞，冲突，容易被攻击，也是比较脆弱的。 在高级架构中，虚拟层是直接安装在硬件设备之上。虚拟层之上直接运行虚拟机，通过虚拟层的获得硬件支持和资源。虚拟层和主机操作系统相比，功能相对单纯，就是负责支持虚拟机运行的。 * This is a server. VMware introduced a single node hypervisor, ESX server back in 2001. That lets you partition up a machine to run multiple OS application combinations, driving utilization from 5-15% on up to 60-85%, letting people provision machines in a matter of minutes as opposed to days. We made sure that the same virtual machine could run on any hw configuration be it a 2 way, a blade system, a 32 way, a laptop. This removes huge amounts of logistical overhead from implementing things like disaster recovery. Then we added virtual infrastructure and now you can provision your virtual machines onto a layer that can span different hardware compenent. And then we introduced VMotion that lets you take a running virtual machine and move it without service interruption across physical machines. You can be serving a movie and the client watching will so no blip as the movie server is moved from one machine to another. This VMotion also lets you service a machine in the middle of the day with no client interruption, say you want to upgrade the memory or service a component. This is already a virtual infrastructure, beyond the single node hypervisor. * * * What is VMware HA? VMware? High Availability (HA) provides easy to use, cost effective high availability for applications running in virtual machines. In the event of server failure, affected virtual machines are automatically restarted on other production servers with spare capacity.
