Is middle school love for real? ???  北京市上地实验学校 邓容 VALENTINE’S Day just passed and it reminded me of a person I know who may be in love. There are two ideas of middle school “love”. One is temptation: Girls dress beautifully, act giggly (吃吃笑地) and appear dumb (傻乎乎的). Guys are popular and attractive. Then there is the other kind: bonding (亲密关系) that may or may not be love. The person I know is like that. She has a friend whom she has feelings for but can’t decide if it’s love or friendship. In her words: “I have doubts because he isn’t how I picture my ideal boyfriend. I want someone smart and kind who holds the same values as I. He isn’t any of these. So sometimes I wonder if Im simply attracted and deciding he’ll do for now. But he is charming, and he isn’t stupid. He may not be an A student, but he’s intelligent and witty. I wonder if I only pity him for the hard times he has had. He knows how to make me laugh. And he’s poetic. We both sing and act. He’s honest. We had several classes together last year. He can be very sweet.” I’m moved by this because it’s hard to find a person who genuinely (真诚地) has such thoughts. It seems that everyone thinks only of how “hot” [attractive] someone is, without acting wisely. For some people, Valentine’s Day might mean nothing. But for others, it could mean a great deal.
