浅析如何增强英语语句的表达效果 张在钊 （河北大学外国语学院，中国 保定 071002） 摘要:本文旨在从影响语句表达效果的四个要素: 一致性, 连贯性, 重点突出和语言有力来探讨如何正确而有效地建构英语语句, 增强其表达力,从而为发展段落和文章奠定基础。 关键词：英语语句；句子结构；主从关系；语序；先行词 中国分类号： 文献标识码： 文章编号： 语句是表达思想感情的最小语言单位，是构成段落及文章的建筑材料。语句的表达效果直接影响到段落及文章的好坏。尽管随着时代的变迁，人们对语言的审美观和判断标准也在变化，然而语句表达效果好的基本要素并没有变，这就是：一致性（Unity）,　连贯性（Coherence），重点突出（Emphasis）和语言有力（Strength）。 (一) 一致性（Unity） 语句的一致性主要指每一个句子都应有一个中心思想。句中其它叙述、描写、解说都应以这个中心思想为出发点。同时要处理好它们与中心思想的主从关系。做到这一点应注意以下几点： 1．明确一个中心思想，划定主从关系，不要忽略、错用或重叠从句。如： I naturally assumed that you had received my letter. I mailed it a month ago. 前句应为中心思想，后句是对它的解释说 用主从复合句连接起来，前后关系一致起来，句子结构也紧凑起来。 I naturally assumed that you had received my letter, for I mailed it a month ago. 我很自然地以为你收到了我的信，因为我一个月前就寄出了。再如： The captain mounted the bridge as the gale gathered force when the sailors were checking the lifeboats. (误) 此句中as和when各带有一个从句，形成从句重叠，使句子结构混乱。做如下修改则使结构一致，意思清晰: As the gale gathered force and the sailors checked the lifeboats, the captain mounted the bridge. 正当风越刮越大，船员们检查救生艇时，船长登上了桥楼。 2．一般说来，先行词应与其修饰成分紧密相连，以做到指代明确。如： A shark may attack a man that is hungry.　 此句中从句“that is hungry”与先行词shark过远，容易产生歧义。做如下调整即可使句意明确，一致： A shark that is hungry may attack a man. 饥饿的鲨鱼可能袭击人。 主从句的主体与对象应保持一致，以做到句意清晰。如： Let’s consider the situation where you have to pay more taxes. （误） 从句中you指代不清，让人费解，若更换为one则与主句的谈论对象相一致： Let’s consider the situation where one has to pay more taxes. 让我们考虑一下必须缴纳更多税金的情况。 4.对于头绪较多的句子，应收首先明确中心思想。同时，利用分词短语、介词短语或从句，使细节服从于中心思想，形成一个有逻辑关系的有机体，以保持整个语句的一致性。如： There are two sorts of avarice: the one is but of a bastard kind, and that is, the rapacious appetite of gain; not for its own sake, but for the pleasure of refunding it immediately through all the channels of pride and luxury; the other is the true kind, and properly so called; which is a restless and unsatiable desire of riches, not for any farther end or use, but only to hoard, and preserve, and perpetually increase them.
