Media is most commonly used for communication, information, or entertainment. We are living in an era of globalization and informatization. According to Zhang Shouying’s theory of the news, “The news media has five major functions, those are the timely reporting of fresh information, guidance and supervision of public opinion, spreading scientific and cultural knowledge, ideological and moral education and entertainment.”() Over the years, the Chinese news media comprehensively implements these functions. The trend of globalization and informatization makes many of us start focusing on the media. Some traditional media become more strong, and some are weak, new media such as Internet turned up on the world stage, which will lead a new round of media revolution. About the news media, not in China, but also in America, they both have political orientation to some extent. News media works for the government and guides public opinion. There is a paper said, “Mainstream media influences mainstream audiences, the mainstream audience supports the mainstream media. Mainstream media especially major newspapers, has a high prestige in the mainstream audience in the western developed countries, and influences their attitudes, behaviors and decisions.”() Media plays an extremely important role in modern society. In China, we can’t use Google, Facebook, and can’t watch porn movies at will. I think the government has their reason to restrict some foreign web sites and porn wed sites. China has a history of five thousand years, the inflows of a lot of information in a short period of time will have huge impact on our national culture, and it will subvert people’s moral values and cause many social problems.
