* Slide Objective: To describe the Unified Messaging Object: Dial Plan. Instructor Notes: The Dial Plan represents the basic unit of administration in Unified Messaging. It is the telephony extension numbering plan. The UM Dial Plan represents the scope of the voice mail system you are replacing. The fundamentals of the UM Dial Plan are: Dial plan members can reach all others in the dial plan using a fixed length extension number. Extensions are unique within a dial plan. Dial plans may consist of multiple PBX networks that are feature transparent. Within Unified Messaging, the Dial Plan + Extension number provides the unique identifier for each Unified Messaging user. This allows greater flexibility in voice mail system consolidation as multiple dial plans can work within the same Unified Messaging environment even if extensions are not unique across the different dial plans. It is also used to represent a SIP-enabled IP PBX, known as a SIP Peer. A Hunt Group object defines the hunt group configured at the PBX to direct calls to a VoIP gateway. It includes a pilot number as the identifier. The Hunt Group objects are contained within an IP Gateway object. One or more hunt groups can be associated with a VoIP Gateway. The pilot number dictates the dial plan of record for a given call coming to a VoIP gateway with multiple hunt groups.
