訊息理論與未來猜想─論張系國《城》三部曲的科學背景 李知昂 中央研究院原子與分子科學研究所研究助理 摘要 張系國以《城》三部曲，為地球的未來苗裔呼回文明，修了一部虛擬的盛衰興亡史。 既是描寫未來苗裔，這部作品的科學內涵自然有其值得探討之處；而全書作為一系列中國風味的科幻小說，尤其在它以「仿古」為主要手法來表現中國風味的情形下，其科學背景與這樣的仿古風格是否能夠調和而不相衝突，也不免受到注意。 從科學的角度檢視這些部分，正是本研究的目標。以下本文將從作者明言在《城》三部曲第一部《五玉碟》中討論的訊息理論開始，探究全系列作品的科學內涵。其次再由《城》三部曲的文本和其他論及呼回文明的短篇科幻如《傾城之戀》等，觀察作者對於一個「曾經擁有遠遠超越目前地球文明的科技，卻又因為文明倒退而走向仿古」的世界，其科學背景設定是否具有一貫性？在文化發展的脈絡上是處理得當，抑或為求中國風味而犧牲了對於未來高度文明的合理猜想？最後，則針對《城》三部曲當中著墨甚多的戰爭描寫，尤其對仿古制的呼回三大勢力和擁有高科技戰爭機器的閃族佔領軍兩者之間的對抗，加以解析；並與作者自身對於未來戰爭的觀點與猜測兩相比較，希望能藉此找出構思上的些許蛛絲馬跡。 Information Theory and Futuristic Speculation-The Scientific Backgrounds of SKC’s “The City Trilogy” Lee, Jyh-Arng Research Assistant, Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica Abstract “The City Trilogy” is a fictitious history Chang Hsi-kuo has written for earth’s descendents on the rise and fall of their callback for civilization. Since this trilogy is about the future generations, it undoubtedly contains scientific matters that are worth looking into. As a series of Chinese-styled SF, especially with its “ancient-imitation” as a main tactic to represent the Chinese style, whether the scientific background of this novel will blend in with the “ancient style” harmoniously comes naturally under attention. The purpose of this essay is to examine these issues from a scientific point of view. Below, the author will start from the information theory in the first book of “The City Trilogy”, “Five Jade Disks”, and study the scientific matters in the entire series. Next is the observation of “The City Trilogy” and other short science fictions that concern the civilization callback, such as “Love in a Fallen City”.
