Body fluid Body fluid is body water and its dissolved solutes . Total body water makes up approximately 55 to 60% of body weight in adult males and somewhat less, perhaps 50 to 55%, in adult females (due to a higher proportion of body fat). 体液 Compartments of body fluid Fluid found within the cells is called intracellular fluid (ICF) and that found outside cells is called extracellular fluid (ECF). Approximately 2/3 of body fluid is intracellular and 1/3 is extracellular. Of the ECF approximately 80% is interstitial fluid and 20% is blood plasma. Level in blood controlled by aldosterone, ANP, and ADH. Essential role in fluid and electrolyte balance – accounts for half the osmolarity of ECF. Role in generation of action potentials. Distribution Function Sodium (Na+) Most abundant intracellular cation. Blood serum level controlled by aldoster
