Module 1 Europe Period One Introduction, Reading and Vocabulary Teaching Aims 1).Train the students’ speaking skills. 2).Develop the students’ reading ability. 3).Learn some useful words and expressions. 4).Learn some information about European cities. Teaching Important Points 1. Help the Ss make sense of the whole passage. 2. Help the Ss to improve their reading ability. Teaching Difficult Points 1. Lead the Ss to talk in class actively. 2. Deal with some difficult language points. Teaching Methods 1). Train the students’ speaking ability through individual and pair work. 2). Train the students’ reading skills by dealing with some reading activities. Teaching Aids Some pictures, the multimedia a blackboard. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Lead-in and Introduction 1. Lead the module in by asking students the following questions: How many continents are there in the world altogether? What are they? Ask Ss to finish the following activities in pairs. 1). Let Ss list as many European countries as they can and write the names of the countries on the Bb. 2). Let Ss give as many European cities as they can and write the names of the cities on the Bb too. 3). Match the countries with the cities. For reference: Germany: Frankfurt.法兰克福, Essen埃森, Bremen不来梅, Munich /’mju:nik/慕尼黑 France: Paris, Monaco /’m?n?k?u/ 摩纳哥, Lyon /lai?n/ 里昂 Italy: Rome, Naples /’neiplz/ 那不勒斯 Britain: Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Belfast Poland: Warsaw, Wroclaw 2. Ask the Ss to look at the map of Europe and read out words in the box, then to finish Activity 1. 3. Ask Ss to read the information on in Activity 2 and find out the countries on the map. Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Learn some words in Activity 2 that are new to students. Match the words with their definitions.
