Lecture 1 String and Language String string is a finite sequence of symbols. For example, string ( s, t, r, i, n, g) CS4384 ( C, S, 4, 3, 8) 101001 (1, 0) Symbols are given through alphabet. An alphabet is a finite set of symbols. Examples of Alphabet {a, b, c, ..., x, y, z} (Roman alphabet) {0, 1, ..., 9} {0, 1} (binary alphabet) Length of a String The length of a string x is the number of symbols contained in the string x, denoted by |x|. For example, | string | = 6, |CS5400| = 6, | 101001 | = 6. The empty string is a string havin
