The acceleration of centrifuge is used to simulate gravity and allows for correspondence of stress fields between model and full scale, permitting accurate modeling of geotechnical phenomena. Such accurate modeling increases the general understanding of problems. The advantage of the geotechnical centrifuge has produced significant impact in several ways, in the solution of problems and in geotechnical engineering. In this study, the scaling laws, scale errors and selection of effective radius of centrifuge modeling are discussed. A criteria to select the effective centrifuge radius is also proposed in this study. In the meanwhile, several techniques and devices to overcome the scale errors during the centrifuge modeling tests are also recommended in this study.
