Teaching Design for Lesson 34 洋县江坝中学 朱莹 Lesson 34: Trains Go on Rails! Teaching Aims: Knowledge Objects: 1). Learn and master the following words and expressions: rail, invent, wheel, engineer, railway, passenger, iron, during, speed, even, get on /off…; 2). Come into contact with the following words and expressions: inventor, steam, engine, locomotive, explode, distance, per, magnetic, jet, jet engine, (at) a top speed of Ability Objects: Be able to hear the key information of the text; Be able to read and comprehend the text correctly, know about the train history; Be able to talk about the railways and trains in China. 3. Moral Objects: Learn about the developed history of the railways and trains in China. Teach the students to love science. Train the students’ spirit of inventing and creation. Teaching Important Points: Learn and master the mastery words and expressions. Read and comprehend the text correctly, know about the train history; 3. Talk about the railways and trains in China. Teaching Difficult Points: Who invented the steam engine, the first steam locomotive, railways and the first passenger railway, and when did they invent them. Teaching Tools: Multimedia Teaching Methods: Immersion Reading; Communicative Approach; Audiolingual Method; Disscussing; Co-operative Learning Teaching Procedure: Class Opening: 1.Greeting. 2. Check the homework. Student Book: Step 1: Talk about different kinds of transportation and their advantages and disavantages, lead up to the new lesson. Step 2: Come to “THINK ABOUT IT”: Check to see if the students have previewed the text. Ask them to discuss the questions. Encourage them to express their opinions actively. Step 3: Listen to the audiotape with the question: What is the text about? Then teach some new words by showing pictures. Step 4: Immersion reading: 1. Read quickly and find the answers to the questions: 1). What happened at that time? (Finish the chart) 2). How fast do trains go? (Finish the chart) 2.
