Since the students in the EPA double degree indicate explicitly that they desire to act as policy analysts in both Western and Eastern environments, it is vital that they be able to master various communicative repertoires. In this course students will learn to cross the bridge the gap between the several cultural dimensions they were acquainted with in ‘Cross-cultural management’ (EPA 1431) and attitudes people have in daily life and decisions they take in practical circumstances. The course will focus mainly on basic differences between Western and Eastern philosophy of science, methods of problem-solving and communicative and management styles and how these can be observed in daily conversation, data collection interpretation and the solving of policy problems. The course consists of two parts. In part 1, students will study materials on basic concepts in Chinese philosophy and Western philosophy of science and typical differences as to how this has an impact on problem-solving strategies.
