美国哥特人的作者 格兰特·伍德(Grant Wood,1892-1942年)美国画家。伍德出生于爱荷华州的安纳摩萨。他在明尼阿波利斯学习手工艺,靠打零工养活自己。1919-24年,他在巴黎的朱利安学院任教 1934年后,他成为美术系的一名教授,直至去世。 Grant ? Wood (Grant Wood ,1892-1942) of the U.S. painter. Wood was born in Anamosa([美国] 阿纳莫萨), Iowa(爱荷华州). He was in Minneapolis(明尼阿波利斯(美国城市)) to learn arts and crafts, by doing odd jobs to feed themselves. 1919-24 years after, he taught Julian(朱利安语) in Paris. In 1934, he became a professor in the Department of Fine Arts, until his death. In August of 1930,Grant Wood was visiting the town of Eldon([美国] 埃尔登) in the southern part of lowa when he came upon a house that would eventually make him famous.This five-room structure was built in the 1880s in a style known as Carpenter Gothic.Back in his studio(单间公寓),Wood used old Victorian photographs and 19th century portrait paintings to plan the scene he was to paint. The man looked straight with his lips closed ,his face is very serious and wore a pair of glasses .The same as the man,there was no smile on the women‘s face. It is one of the most familiar images in 20th century?American art?and one of the most parodied artworks within American? popular culture. We can see these pictures in many places ,but they all have been parodied(拙劣的仿作品) What is American Gothic American Gothic?is a painting?by?Grant Wood?from 1930. Its inspiration came from a?cottage?designed in the Gothic Revival style with a distinctive(有特色的) upper window(楼上窗户)?and a decision to paint the house along with “the kind of people I fancied(虚构) should live in that house.”?The painting shows a serious-looking man and a women standing alongside him in front of a farmhouse, their models being respectively(分别的) the artists dentist and sister.
