Lesson objectives:
1.Students will be able to use these words: score/westerners/healthy/discuss/freely.
2.Students will be able to understand some western food and grasp the skills of discussing different diets.
3.Develop the students ability of expressing in oral English.
Teaching aids: a computer, etc.
Teaching procedure:
A.Pre-reading
1.Revision
Review the information from Lesson 57 and 58 about how to choose food in a foreign restaurant and ask Ss to act it out. Then use some pictures which write: A headache, A cough , A pain on the back, Terrible feeling, to let the students act it out and ask the other students to guess what is happening, then ask the students: Suppose you are doctors, what advice can you give? (in Ss AB Ex. Ⅰ)
Eg. T: What is happening to the sick student?/If you are a doctor, what do you say for each illness?
Then, the students give the corresponding prescriptions individually, they may say:
I suggest …
Take this medicine …
Take two pills and two more …
2.Presentation
Ask the students to say the causes of illness and ask them to list some Chinese food and Western food in two columes. Then talk about the differences between them and let them give some restaurants names which sell Western food. People get ill under different circumstances. Can you list some? (diet, bad weather etc,)/There are two kinds of diets, they are Chinese diet and Western diet. Please list the names of food belonging to the two diets on your Activity Book. (in Ss AB Ex. Ⅱ) (Teacher may allow the Ss to refer to dictionaries while necessary. And a group of students can be asked to go to the front and list food names with no repetition. ) Whats the differences between them? Which is healthier? Why? (Ss may not give certain answers to this question. It doesnt matter if they give different reasonable answers. ) Then encourage Ss to read the text and find the writers attitude. (Chinese diet is healthier, it contains more fruit and vegetab
