Town twinning began many years ago, but it has become more and more popular in recent years.　In fact, it is an agreement between towns or cities of similar size and age, and those with similar features. For example, Oxford in the UK and Grenoble in France are twin cities. They are both middle-sized cities and each of them has universities and industries.
