CFX_Multiphase_12.0_WS04_Algebraic_Slip

Introduction This example demonstrates the use of the algebraic slip or drift flux model in ANSYS CFX. This is a single-phase multi-component approximation to true multiphase flow, valid for systems where particles quickly reach their terminal velocity In order to shorten run-time, a two-dimensional planar mesh is used This example features: Algebraic Slip Model Buoyant flow You will perform a simular simulation in the next workshop, but will use Lagrangian particle tracking instead of ASM. Computational Mesh Importing the Mesh Copy the file CFX gtm file hex.gtm from the input files folder into a working directory Start CFX-Pre from the ANSYS CFX Launcher. Create a new simulation (File/New Case/General). Right-click on Mesh in the Outline and import the hex.gtm file into the simulation setting the type to CFX Mesh. Materials for ASM Species You will define three materials (Small, Medium, and Large) for use in defining the ASM species Click on the + sign next to Materials in the Tree View and find the constant property liquid named Water. You will define a new material, Oil, based on the properties of Water Right click on Water and select Duplicate. This will create a material named Copy of Water. Right-click on this material and rename it Small. This duplicate material will have properties identical to those of the parent material Water (r = 997 kg/m^3) Similarly create duplicates of Water and rename them Medium and Large. Defining a Fluid Domain Edit the Default Domain created for your imported mesh or if one was not created, create one On the Basic Settings tab: Select dusty air as the material for Fluid 1 Set the Buoyancy Option to Buoyant with a gravity vector of (9.81,0,0 [m/s^2]) and a Buoyancy Reference Density equal to that of Air at 25 C (1.185 kg/m^3) Leave all other settings at their default values Boundary Conditions For this simulation, the boundary conditions include: an Inlet at the top left (low x) face Symmetry Planes on the hi
