My Coaching Philosophy Webster tells us that, among other things, a philosopher is a person who meets all events, whether favorable or unfavorable, with calmness and composure. Furthermore, among the comments he makes in defining philosophy are such statement as : originally, love of wisdom or knowledge; a study of the processes governing thought and conduct; the general principles or laws of a field of knowledge or activity; and a study of human morals, character, and behavior. I) On doing your best II) The coach as a teacher: 1” Knowledge of your subject (basketball) 2”General knowledge 3”Teaching skill 4”Professional attitude 5”Discipline 6”Classroom (floor) organization 7”School and community relations 8”Teacher-pupil (coach-player) relationship 9”Warm personality and genuine consideration for others 10”Desire to improve III) The coach as a leader VI) Style or system of play: You must firmly believe in what you are doing and that— 1” It is not what you do, but how well you execute it if based on sound valid principles. There are no real secrets to the game, at least not for very long. 2” No system will be successful unless the players are well grounded in the fundamentals and execute them properly and so quickly that they seem to be done instinctively. 3” Team play from both the offensive and defensive points of view comes from integrating well-conditioned players who have mastered the fundamentals into a smooth-working and cohesive unit. V) The fast-break minded coach The principal reasons for my belief in the fast-break game are: 1”To please the fans. 2”To please the players 3”More players get to play VI) Five basic principles: 1” Industriousness 2”Ethusiasm 3”Condition-mental.
