The Same Umbrella Zhuang Min “A boring day.” Wenny ,a six-year-old girl, stared at the rain, “I wanted something interesting.” A voice in the bottom of her heart whispered: “Wenny, didn’t you think it was interesting to get wet in the rain?” “I had never done that before, but it sounded a good idea.” Five minutes later, Wenny went out putting her favorite umbrella up. The umbrella was beautiful and expensive, and everyone who saw it would say: “What a beautiful umbrella!” There was none on the street except Wenny and her umbrella. Then, the girl closed her umbrella carefully and raised her head to feel the rain. As she getting wet, the girl felt uncomfortable. “The rain was cold, wet and a little pain. It was a bad idea to feel the rain. I had to go home but, what should I explain to mom?” At the same time, Wenny saw a blind man with nothing to keep out the rain stumbling along the street… Wenny slid home carefully and silently, but her mom appeared: “What did you do? Why were you so wet?” “I just went out and… ha-chiss!” The next day, Wenny was lying in bed, drowsy, weak, and frowned. She got a high fever yesterday and still not healed. Wenny looked at her mom and acted like a spoiled child: “mom, mom, your little girl was uncomfortable, and she wanted a hug.” The kind woman gazed at her daughter softly: “You were the best girl in the world, and mom was so proud of you…” She took out an umbrella which was the same as the previous one, equal beautiful and expensive. Wenny was so surprised that she couldn’t speak fluently: “mom, the umbrella…” The mother patted the girl’s head and said in a gentle voice:“Your aunt Chen, our neighbor, had told me what you did yesterday. You gave your umbrella to the blind, didn’t you? And that was your favorite umbrella so I bought the same one for you. You were a kind-hearted girl. I love you, baby.” * *
