Teaching Design Name Huang Zhongwei School Jiangsu Province Yangzhong Senior Middle School Title Born to win Analysis on teaching materials This is an English essay on the topic of “win”. From the essay we know that each human being is born with the capacity to win at life and each has his own potential to be a winner. The first paragraph introduces the theme of the essay and in the second paragraph the definition of “winner” is given and the following six paragraphs show us different features winners possess. In general, this piece of reading material is rather difficult for students to understand, not only because there are many new words for them but some phrases and expressions are also hard to comprehend. Analysis on learners Students are from Grade 2. They’ve mastered some basic skills of English reading, listening and speaking. But the new words in this reading material will bring some difficulties for students to fully understand this essay. Moreover, students may be afraid to express their thoughts in public in English so I’ll try my best to encourage them to express their understanding of “win”. Teaching objectives (including importance and difficulties) Knowledge objective: to enable students to comprehend this essay by listening, reading and discussing. Ability objective: to enable students to express their own understanding of this topic by using their own words. Moral objective: to encourage students to realize that each of them is born with the capacity to win and each can be a winner of his or her life.
