The cool Bob 　　THERE’S SOMETHING special about an open stretch of road coupled with an awesome looking bike to ride on. The new Fat Bob is more than just looks. It has massive road presence and the flat handlebar, the low stepped seat and the forward pushed footpegs with a massive V-twin air-cooled engine, all sum up to give the Bob its characteristic look. 　　There’s nothing really new mechanically in the bike compared to other Dyna models like the Street Bob or the Super Glide. The engine is again the air cooled Twin Cam 96 V-twin that displaces 1585cc and develops a max torque of 126Nm with a six-speed box. The cycle components too are mostly the same, barring the combo of beefy telescopic forks and the fatter, higher profile rubber mounted on 16 inch wheel in the front. The rear tyre with a 180 section is huge too. 　　The riding experience hasn’t changed much either and that isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s similar to the original and the gears still require a forceful tug. The Fat Bob isn’t high up on the list when it comes to handling too. 　　So, what’s good? Well, the bike has the ability to cheer you up. There抯 something about it, like most large Harleys that make you feel special, mainly with the attention they draw. Unlike riding a sports bikea where one feels the pressure to gear up and perform, on the Fat Bob, being basic, casual and slow is cool. As far as the riding goes, the phenomenal torque means there’s hardly any downshifting required, ever. On full throttle there’s enough turn of speed for overtaking, catching up or getting more wind under your wings. And even though it’s not really meant to corner well on turns, if a few bends do show up, the bike needs to be prepared in advance. One doesn’t buy a Harley because it is more affordable than a sports bike. One buys it for its sheer charisma. On that count, the Fat Bob delivers with flying colours.
