南航暑期国际课程大数据可视化第8讲3综述
Dense Pixel Displays
Idea –
mapping each dimension value to a colored pixel (one pixel per data value) and
group the pixels belonging to each dimension into adjacent areas.
E.g., (5,3,4,7) is mapped to 4 colored pixels located one next to each other.
This techniques allow the visualization of the largest amount of data possible on current displays (up to about 1.000.000 =103 x103
data values).
Dense pixel techniques use different pixel arrangements for different purposes.
The resulting visualization provides detailed information on local correlations, dependencies, and hot spots.
Dense Pixel Displays
(1) Recursive pattern
(2) Circle segments
The recursive pattern technique -- a recursive back-and-forth arrangement of the pixels
E.g., representing datasets with a natural order according to one attribute (e.g. time series data).
To form semantically meaningful substructures the user may specify parameters for each recursion level.
Arrangements
The base element on each recursion level is
a pattern within rectangles of height hi and width wi as specified by the user.
Pixels in a rectangle h1xw1 are first arranged from left to right, then below backwards from right to left, then again forward from left to right, and so on.
The same arrangement is done on all recursion levels with the only difference
the basic elements which are arranged on level i are the pattern resulting from the level (i ? 1) arrangements.
