Reflections on Teaching Extensive Reading Introduction The students I work with are Business English majors in Hubei University of Economics. Of all the English language courses, the so-called extensive reading (ER) is usually taken during the second academic year with classes meeting 90 minutes each, once a week for 32 weeks. The ER course is misunderstood either by the course developer or the instructor as a supplementary reading course, in which only one pre-selected textbook is provided and exercises following each text required.
