MikroTik RouterOS Queues and Bandwidth Management DRAFT Document revision 15-May-2002 This document applies to the MikroTik RouterOS V2.5 Overview The MikroTik RouterOS has the following bandwidth management features: Queues, which can be set for certain traffic flows, are discussed in the current manual; Connection speed setting for PPPoE connections, see the PPPoE Interface Manual. Queuing is a mechanism that controls bandwidth allocation, delay variability, timely delivery, and delivery reliability. The MikroTik RouterOS supports the following queuing mechanisms: PFIFO - Packets Packet First-In First-Out,BFIFO - Bytes First-In First-Out,RED - Random Early DetectionSFQ - Stochastic Fair Queuing The queuing can be used for limiting the bandwidth for certain IP addresses, protocols or ports. The queuing is performed for packets leaving the router through an interface. It means that the queues should always be configured on the outgoing interface regarding the traffic flow. If there is a desire to limit the traffic arriving at the router, then it should be done at the outgoing interface of some other router.
