2015 Oxford Prospects Winter School 1 Introducing Oxford International Youth Academy Oxford Prospects Summer/Winter Programmes, organized by Oxford International Youth Academy based at colleges of Oxford, introduce Oxford to students from other countries, promote cross- cultural communication and guide our students towards a path of greater awareness and understanding of other cultures. The Academy provides short courses in Oxford for university students from overseas. During your time here you will experience a taste of life in the UK, including: ? living, eating and studying within the colleges of Oxford University ? being taught by Oxford University academics ? visiting London and other important cultural sites ? practising your English and your presentation skills ? interacting with UK university students. The Academy also extends a warm welcome to its alumni – students who have completed one of our programmes. We are always happy to see you in Oxford! Course aims Oxford International Youth Academy’s summer and winter programmes will: ? provide an excellent standard of teaching by Oxford University academics and others ? increase your confidence in speaking English ? show you some of England’s major tourist attractions 2 2 ? give you opportunities to socialise with Oxford University students ? encourage you to make new friends from among your fellow students. Course objectives After attending an Oxford International Youth Academy programme, you will be able to: ? use English with greater confidence and fluency, including in public speaking ? speak knowledgeably in English about an aspect of life in the UK ? compare and contrast the history, culture, politics and educational methods of the UK with those at home, using examples to support your arguments.
