动词的-ing形式和to do形式作宾语。
(1)只能用动词-ing形式作宾语的动词:
admit,risk,keep,understand,excuse,appreciate,delay,enjoy,finish,imagine,suggest, advise,avoid, escape,mind,put off,miss,forgive,consider,allow, permit,resist, stand,give up,insist on,practice,?例如:
The teacher suggested doing the experiment in another way.
Why did they delay building the bridge?
My parents permit buying me a new bike.
注意,介词后通常用动词-ing形式作宾语。例如:
dream of doing, have difficulty (in) doing, succeed in doing, feel like doing
(2)只能用动词不定式作宾语的动词:
hope, wish, expect, long; agree, promise, undertake,intend, plan, want, mean, desire; arrange,manage, learn, decide, determine,attempt, pretend, choose,offer, demand, refuse,threaten, prepare, fail。例如:
We agreed to meet here but so far she hasn’t turned up yet.
Please don’t refuse to join us.
