Objectives:
Through the letter learn something about life and education in some Papua new Guinea and increase our understanding of the people there.
Complete the relevant tasks.
Learn the key words and expressions.
Procedures:
Task 1 Preview
1. We have all heard about Lei Feng, who was ready to help others and set us an example. We live our own lives. Everybody has his own work to do. Why must we help others? Give your opinion.
2. Discuss:
● In what ways do we help the people around? (Warming up, P28)
● Can we call the person who helps others a “volunteer”?
Task 2 Pre-reading
Do you know what PNG stands for?
Discuss the questions below Pre-reading on page 28.
Task 3 While-reading
Skim the text and get the general idea of the letter.
In the letter, the writer wrote about the ________ and ________ conditions in PNG and her ________ of ________ a student’s village.
Read the text again and sum up the main idea of each paragraph. Match the following.
Paragraph 2 I had a meal with the student’s family and they cooked in an unusual way.

Paragraph 5 The educational conditions are very poor.
