DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPECIAL HARDFACING MATERIALS USING COMPUTER SIMULATION Investigation of the properties of a metal welded by flux-cored wires developed by a novel computer-aided method for designing welding materials V. The results of an investigation of the composition, structure and properties of a metal welded by flux-cored wires developed using the methodology described in [1,?2] are presented. The agreement between the predictions and real results is estimated. Introduction An analysis of various approaches to solving the problem of designing modern welding materials that impart a specific set of service characteristics to the hard-faced metal reveals the lack of a comprehensive methodology for solving this problem [3–24]. The methodology described in [1, 2] offers an alternative to this state of affairs in the area of designing modern welding materials. In the present work an attempt was made to design flux-cored hard-facing wires using the methodology in [1, 2]. The design objective was to create self-shielded flux-cored wires for creating a weld metal that operates under the conditions of impact-abrasion wear and has the microstructure of metastable austenite (30–50 wt. %), fine-acicular martensite, and uniformly distributed carbide-nitrides (5–15 wt. %). Under intensive impact loading, metastable austenite absorbs part of the impact energy and transforms into martensite, which strengthens the weld metal and improves its wear resistance. An alloying system in which the region of the martensitic transformation shifts into the room- temperature range (Ms 120°C, Mf 0°C) was designed [34]. This permits the maintenance in it of a considerable amount of austenite supersaturated with alloying elements, including elements that form inte
