Objective.Theobjectivewastocomparethepostprandialglycemicandinsulinemicresponsestonutritionbarscontainingeither cross-linkedRStype4(RS4XL)orstandardwheatstarchinnormoglycemicadults(n=13;age=27±5years;BMI=25±3kg/m ). 2 Methods.Volunteerscompletedthreetrialsduringwhichtheyconsumedaglucosebeverage(GLU),apu?edwheatcontrolbar (PWB),andabarcontainingcross-linkedRS4(RS4XL)matchedforavailablecarbohydratecontent.Serialbloodsampleswere collectedovertwohoursandglucoseandinsulinconcentrationsweredeterminedandtheincrementalareaunderthecurve(iAUC) wascalculated.Results.TheRS4XL peakglucoseandinsulinconcentrationswerelowerthantheGLUandPWB(P .05).The iAUCforglucoseandinsulinwerelowerfollowingingestionofRS4comparedwiththeGLUandPWBtrials.Conclusions .These dataillustrate,forthe?rsttime,thatdirectlysubstitutingstandardstarchwithRS4XL,whilematchedforavailablecarbohydrates, attenuatedpostprandialglucoseandinsulinlevelsinhumans.Itremainstobedeterminedwhetherthisresponsewasduetothe dietary?berand/orresistantstarchaspectsoftheRS4XL bar. 1.Introduction diabetic individuals, positive e?ects on large bowel health and prevention of colonic
