Such specificity contrasts the long-held view that invertebrate innate immunity depends on a broad- spectrumrecognitionsystem.Animportantquestioniswhetherthisspecificityisduetotheimmuneresponseratherthan some other interplay between host and parasite genotypes. By measuring the expression of putative bumblebee homologuesofantimicrobialpeptidesinresponsetoinfectionbytheirguttrypanosomeCrithidiabombi,wedemonstrate thatexpressiondifferencesareassociatedwiththespecificinteractions.
