ExperiencinganintimaterelationshipwithGodandengaginginreligiousbehaviorwasassociatedwithincreasedvolumeof Rmiddletemporalcortex,BA21.ExperiencingfearofGodwasassociatedwithdecreasedvolumeofLprecuneusandL orbitofrontalcortexBA11.AclusteroftraitsrelatedwithpragmatismanddoubtingGod’sexistencewasassociatedwith increasedvolumeoftheRprecuneus.Variabilityinreligiosityofupbringingwasnotassociatedwithvariabilityincortical volumeofanyregion.Therefore,keyaspectsofreligiosityareassociatedwithcorticalvolumedifferences.Thisconclusion complementsourpriorfunctionalneuroimagingfindingsinelucidatingtheproximatecausesofreligioninthebrain.
