Methods:41subjectsscheduledfordaysurgeryundergeneralanaesthesiawere recruitedintothisstudy.EEGbicoherencewasanalysedusingaverageand smoothed-peakestimatescalculatedoverdifferentregionsonthebifrequencyplane. Statisticalanalysisofassociationsbetweenanaestheticdepth/stateofconsciousness andbicoherenceestimatesincludedlinearregressionusinggeneralisedlinearmixed effectsmodels(GLMs),ROCcurvesandpredictionprobability(Pk). Results:Bicoherenceestimatesfortheδ_θregiononthebifrequencyplanewere moresensitivetoanaestheticdepthchangescomparedtootherbifrequencyregions. Smoothed-peakbicoherencedisplayedstrongerassociationsthanaverage bicoherence.Excludingburstsuppressionandlargetransients,theδ_θpeak bicoherencewassignificantlyassociatedwithlevelofanaestheticdepth(z=25.74, p0.001andR2=0.191).EstimatesofPkforthi
