Methods:295adults(59.7%women)withoutdiabetescompleted2-yearinterventionprogram.Characteristicsof thosewhomaintained/improvedglucosetolerancestatus(non-progressors)werecomparedwiththosewho worsened(progressors)aftertheintervention.Inlogisticregressionanalysis,theconditionofnon-progressorwas usedasdependentvariable. Results:Baselinecharacteristicsofnon-progressors(71.7%)andprogressorsweresimilar,exceptfortheformer beingyoungerandhavinghigherfrequencyofdisturbedglucosetoleranceandlowerC-reactiveprotein(CRP).In logisticregression,non-deteriorationofglucosemetabolismwasassociatedwithdisturbedglucosetolerance- impairedfastingglucoseorimpairedglucosetolerance-(p0.001)andCRPlevels≤0.04mg/dL(p=0.01), adjustedforageandanthropometricvariables.Changesinanthropometryandphysicalactivityandachievement ofweightanddietarygoalsafterinterventionweresimilarinsubsetsthatworsenedornottheglucosetolerance status.
