His mother was an actress, too. Although they were not ones of the big names, they were doing very well. They were not rich, but the Chaplins were living a comfortable life. Unfortunately the happy life did not last long. His father drank too much, surely destroying his family. Finally it ended in divorce (离婚). Chaplin and his brother lived together with their mother, who had great effect on Chaplin. She would sit at the window watching the passersby and guess at their characters from the way they looked and behaved. Charlie took in her skills and went on using them all his life. His first appearance on the stage: 1894 at the age of five. The turning point in his life: In 1906 at the age of seventeen, he set off for the USA with a group of comedy actors where he began to show his own manner of acting to the public. The first film part by Chaplin During a second trip to the USA in 1912, an important film director saw him acting a very funny part in a play. As a result, he got his first film part in the States. The first film acted in by Charlie Chaplin “Making a Living” in 1914. The public loved him and in a short time, he had become a popular film star. The special manner of acting of Charlie Chaplin The Tramp(流浪者) was a big step forward. In it, Shoulder, the little tramp, whom most people remember when they think of Charlie Chaplin, put in his first proper appearance.
