Introduction: -Research background With the deepening of education reform, English plays an important role in?the?development?trends?of?higher education爄n爐he爓orld. English teaching and learning become a pressing matter of the moment. In order to improve students’ language ability, the author wants to analyze the effects of cooperative learning in English reading teaching in senior high school. In ancient times, many educators advocate cooperative learning which requires learners to learn from each other and exchange learning experience in the learning process. Nowadays, cooperative learning is widely recognized as the most promising way in education. -Purpose Cooperative learning is advocated in the new curriculum. It can give opportunities for students of different levels and conditions to work together on the same task and has obvious effects on learning. It also can show the teachers teaching effect and regard students as the center of the class, and also fully excavate students potential. Cooperating with each other will make students active in class. Taking all factors into consideration, cooperative learning in English reading teaching is of great importance. -Necessity and importance Now reading has become a necessity in English learning and it is helpful for the students’ further study. But under the influence of the traditional teaching theory, teachers can only explain the knowledge in the limited time and can’t interact with most of students. Facing the situation, traditional English reading teaching should be changed to improve students’ English reading ability. Cooperative learning is one of the most influential theories which can enhance students’ positivity, train their cooperative ability and cooperative awareness. In this thesis, the author aims at providing more chances for senior students to cooperate and help them to develop their English
