Fudan University, one of the leading universities in China, recently conducted a comprehensive survey with the aim of gathering data and knowledge about how often the virtual property theft happens, as well as how well personal online information is protected by the community. Specifically, the survey focused on youngsters -- the main force of netizens -- and was carried out both online and offline from June through October. The result indicates that 90.2% of the people questioned have been harassed by the annoying viruses and trojans, of which one out of every three have suffered direct financial loss, while only 7.4% of the whole were never troubled by such head-breaking problems.

In the year of 2006, a British hacker broke into U.S military networks in order to hunt for classified information in the database of Pentagon, headquarter of U.S Department of Defense. Moreover, it was until several hours later when the invasion was finally detected and emergency measures were taken to save the secret files. However, the attacker nonetheless deleted critical information from U.S Army Systems that ended up knocking more than 2000 computers offline in Washington, D.C and caused nearly $1m worth of damage.
