A m ethod that employs classification zones of theM - curves of the connections to estmi ate the connection stiffnesswas proposed, on the basis of studying the beam-column connection stiffness in steel structure framework theory and revision of the code for scaffold. The sem-i rigid connection characteristicswere studied and a criterion for its critical valuewas introduced. The new test schemewas introduced by modifying the measurement method in the code for steel tube scaffold couplers (G 15831 2006). A 3-D FEM was established to smi ulate the right angle coupler. The relationship between stiffness and initial bolt tightening torquewas established, and the coupler stiffness characteristics were determ ined. The right angle coupler stiffness adjustm ent coefficient was introduced to describe the stiffness deterioration of the coupler caused by repeated uses and surfacewear.
