E鄄mail:zhang鄄qiang@;zhangqiangflotu@ Innovation with carbon materials 鄄鄄鄄A report on the annual world conference on carbon,Carbon2015 ZHANG Qiang (Department of Chemical Engineering,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China) Abstract:摇 The annual worldconferenceoncarbon,Carbon2015,washeldinDresden,Germany,andwashostedbytheGerman Carbon Group and German Ceramic Society,during July 12~17,2015. About 582 attendees from40 countries participated in the conference,and540 papers were accepted for discussion,including4 plenary lectures,256 oral presentations,and 280 posters in鄄 volved in 12topics,namely,activatedcarbon,biomassderivedcarbon,carbonblack,carbonfiberandcomposites,granular/ nucle鄄 ar carbon,natural graphite,nanoforms,industrial,conversion process,physical chemical properties,environmental medical, and energy storage. Carbonfiber,graphite,carbonblack,andcarbonalloywerethesubjectsoftheplenarylectures. Theinnovation of the traditional carbon materialsand new nanocarbon,the critical role of carbon in energy,environment,and healthcare applica鄄 tion,aswell asthenewinsightsontherelationship of structureandpropertiesatthemolecular scalewere stronglyconsideredinthis event. Carbon materialsrequired continuousinnovation to meet the rising requirement of sustainable society.
