The basi ontrol strategy for the double onverters in series has been illustrated and analyzed in this paper. A s many other HV DC sy stems, the basi operation ontrol strategy of ±800kV DC transmission sy stem is that DC u-r rent is ontrolled by tw o re tifiers simultaneously during normal operation w hile DC voltage is ontrolled by tw o in- verters themselves or OLT C of inverters. The simulation results by EM T DC program demonstrate that independent ontrol for ea h onverter without inte-r ommuni ation between them on this strategy an insure the performan e of the sy stem to operate symmet ri ally during steady operation and to response properly under fault onditions as var-i ons A C and DC faults. It is dis overed that the inherent unbalan e betw een tw o ontrollers of onverters in series will lead to ontrol shift at steady statement. For exam ple, one of ontrollers is w orking at min. ontrol angle as 5° and the other one at some larger angle. The error elimination part should be in luded into ontrol hain to avoid su h ontrol shift. A s an essential method to improve the availability of HV DC sy stem with two onverters in series the by-pass swit h is usually applied to the onverter. The seq
