T he e tuarine phy toplankton compo ition, patial and temporal di tribution, primary productivity, and their influ- encing factor were reviewed, and the ignificance of e tuarine phytoplankton in monitoring aquatic environment, biodiver ity of e tuarine phy toplankton, and edge effect were di cu ed.Generally, the dominant phy toplankton population were diatom and dinoflagellate in e tuarie .M icrophy toplankton and picophytoplankton played impor- tant role in e tuarine eco y tem .Spatial and temporal change in e tuarine phy toplankton pecie co mpo itio n and primary productivity were apparent.Several factor including light, temperature, nutrient , herbivory and riv er flow could influence e tuarine phy toplankton production.
