傣族艺术 The Dai people are quite good at singing and dancing. Their achievements in music are well-known among all the ethnic groups. Their folk and traditional musical instruments include the elephant-foot drum, bronze gong, clarinet, and hulusi. Xishuangbanna is the home of the peacock, which the Dai people revere as a symbol of good fortune, happiness, beauty and kindness. Thus the Peacock Dance is their most popular folk dance. Performers in clothes with peacock patterns imitate peacocks with lively, flexible and graceful movements in a dance that is a popular part of the Water-splashing Festival. Located: Yuannan province Sichuan province Guizhou province the north of Guangxi province Yi costumes The Yi costumes with unique designs appeal to the tourists from all over the world. Women: Women often wear laced or embroidered jackets and pleat long skirts hemmed with colorful multi-layered laces. Some women wear black scarves, while middle-age and young women prefer embroidered square kerch with the front covering part of the forehead. Men Yi men wear black jackets with tight sleeves and right-side askew fronts and pleated wide-bottomed trousers. They usually keep a mass of hair three or four inches long on the head and wear a scarf made of a long piece of bluish cloth. The end of the cloth is tied into the shape of a thin horn jutting out from the right side of the forehead, which is named ZITI in the Yi language. Costumes and habits Gaoshan clothes are generally made of hemp and cotton. Mens wear includes capes, vests, short jackets and pants, leggings and turbans decorated with laces, shells and stones. In some areas, vests are delicately woven with rattan and coconut bark. Women wear short blouses with or without sleeves, aprons and trousers or skirts with ornaments like bracelets and ankle bracelets.
