Bucks Translation of All Men Are Brothers and Her Revolt against the West Zhuang Huaping (I nternational College, Zhej iang University, H angzhou 310027, China) Abstract: As Pearl S. Bucks only translation, All Men A re Brothers has suffered longtime reproach due to its endeavors to inject the source cultural elements into the target language. Ho ever, most critics, ho are either too arbitrary in their assertion or too supportive of their target culture and ideology, inclined to ignore the comprehensibility and accessibility bet een different cultures. With full consideration of Bucks original intention to interpret real Chinese language as ell as Oriental culture to the West, and through an objective comparison of t o other important translated versions,A ll Men Are Brothers as the first full English translation of ShuihuZhuan reveals that Bucks translation is not only feasible but also foresighted. Her efforts have significant intercultural communication values in the current postcolonialist era.As German philosopher Nietzsche said,translation is a kind of conquest.And it should be t o ay or mutual conquest.As a translator from the Western orld, Bucks intentional revolt against the West deserves our appreciation and further study.
