Practice stage is for the students to practise this new language, first in a very controlled way and gradually adding more of their own language to it. Production stage is for the student to use the language freely, incorporating it in what they already know. 莫言：故乡是创作灵感的源泉。 Son of the soil Mo Yan, this year’s winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is a son of the Chinese soil. He was born in Shandong province in the small town of Gaomi. His parents were farmers and as a young boy Mo took care of the family’s small herd of goats. Each day he would take the goats into the fields and watch over them as they grazed on the wild shrubs and grasses.　　 It was a lonely job, but Mo was a sensitive, thoughtful boy. He enjoyed being surrounded by the green, flat, open land of Shandong. He enjoyed looking up at the clean blue sky and seeing the white clouds changing shape as they drifted by. To pass the time he would talk to the goats. He would tell them his feelings and tell them stories. It was the beginning of his life as a storyteller.　　 During the Cultural Revolution (文化大革命) Mo had to leave school and work for a petroleum company. This was difficult for Mo because he loved books and he loved reading. Luckily for Mo, he found a friend who would lend him books. Later Mo joined the army and was able to continue his education and eventually he graduated from Beijing University.
