On Exam-oriented Educational System Examination has been an important part of school education since it started in Sui Dynasty. The exam-oriented educational pattern is the inevitable result of the existing exam assessment system. People always adhere to the traditional way of examination and its old concept. Exam is regarded not only as a means to evaluate students according to the marks they get but as a standard to measure the teaching and learning. For decades, students in China cultivated under a test-oriented educational system are good for nothing but skilful at obtaining high scores in school tests. As a result, there are many “high score, low ability” students. ? Education for tests does not improve the quality of students. First, In order to climb into the ‘ivory tower’ or work for their degrees, students are cramming data and facts only for exams and forget all the information right after the exams. As students are merely supposed to memorize numerous mechanical facts, their creativity is greatly hindered. What’s worse, when students become interested in testing techniques, they gradually lose their freedom and creativity because they always bury themselves in multiple choices and never attach importance to practical ability and originality. Second, under a test-oriented system, what students have learned at school is disconnected with what is required by the society, which would make it extremely hard for them to fit in the competitive society once they graduate. In view of such situation, we must provide a quality education that targets the students’development in an all-round way, concentrating on education to improve students’creativity and the practicability of the knowledge they learn. ?
